Dr. Ardath Franck Memorial Scholarship
In recognition of the legacy Ardath Franck has left in the twirling world, a scholarship fund in her honor has been created. Disbursement of funds will take two forms:
1) “Founders” Scholarship for the Senior and Teen Miss TU Majorette winners. The Senior winner has always been awarded the Fred Franck Memorial Scholarship of $250 and the Teen winner was also awarded a $250 cash prize. The scholarship amounts for these two divisions will be increased to $500 each—and they will be renamed “Founders Scholarships” in honor of both Fred (Fritz) and Ardath Franck, who co-founded Twirling Unlimited in 1981.
2) Ardath Franck Memorial scholarships will be given, in the amount of $200 each, to the winners of the Interview portion of the Miss TU Majorette competition in the 3 oldest age divisions (Jr, Teen, Sr). Part of Ardath’s devotion to our sport was her recognition of the many life skills that could be learned from participating in twirling. The confidence and poise learned in interviewing is one of those important skills—and recognizing Dr. Franck’s commitment to “giving back”, one of the interview questions will be oriented toward service.
Note: a contestant is eligible to win the AF Memorial scholarship only once in each age division. If a contestant is the highest scoring Interview more than one time in the same division, her accomplishment will be recognized, but the scholarship monies will go to the next highest scoring interview.
The goal of these memorial scholarships is to recognize both the service and life skills areas of Dr Franck's legacy. The scholarship(s) will be presented annually at the TU International competition in July. Disbursement of the funds will begin in July 2022.
